Dear friends of Era Of Africa,
Last year 2008 Era Of Africa initiated a new project for our second generation in Kinshasa, DRCongo entitled: Hoon Dok Hwe competition.
This competition will be conducted for 4 years until 2012.Children between 12 and 17 are asked to memorize some important extracts from TF Peace Messages. Last year we focused only on the first 3
speeches. We selected titles such as:
What is True Love?
What is the Kingdom of Heaven?
What is the significance and the value of lineage?
etc….
Children had to draw by lottery the extract they had to recite. In total 23
children registered to participate in the competition.
After the elimination process which took place during the year, three children, all girls, were the winners. They were presented to our church community of 900 people gathered to celebrate True God's Day 2009. They recited their extracts in front of the crowd to the delight of all.
This event was the most exciting and inspiring moment of the celebration of True God's Day. The whole community was very happy and pleased with the idea. Those children who did not participate regretted very much and are now longing to join the competition this year.
The first price of 300 usd was won by Gabea M. Kabamba 14 yrs old, the second price 200 usd went to Yeon Rebecca Mujangi 15 yrs old and the third 100 usd went to Myoma Sarah Kabamba 12 yrs old.
Dear friends, you may think that 300, 200, and 100 usd are not such a big money, but in D.R.Congo, especially in this time of severe crisis caused by the war and political instability, 300 USD is a lot of
money for these children and their families. It can pay one school year fee( for a good
school we have in Kinshasa) for one child or feed the whole family of 4
children for 2 months! I am not kidding!
As children and growing in a Christian family we were asked, during our Sunday school class, to memorize many passages of the bible, several psalms etc… and I still remember some of them until now at the age of 56! In the same way we think this competition will be very helpful for our children to enable them to get used to the most important points from TP message.
Our desire is to extend this competition to other regions of the country and even beyond the nation. Your contribution will be very much appreciated.
